House of Lebanon Ribbon Cutting

Cunningham | Quill attended the House of Lebanon Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on December 20, 2013 along with DC Mayor Vincent Gray, DC Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, Pastor Edmonds of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, and other community leaders, representatives from the development and construction teams, and new residents of the building. The ribbon-cutting marked the completion of this exciting project to transform the historic Margaret Murray Washington School into 82 units of affordable Senior Housing in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington DC.

Built between 1928 and 1971, the school was Washington’s first vocational school for African-American women. The adaptive reuse of the school building involved significant historic preservation efforts as well as a creative approach to the adaptive reuse of the gymnasium building added in 1971.
